Up & Down the River Scorecard
Last updated: 1 August 2026
Up & Down the River Scorecard is a scorekeeper for a card game. It has no accounts, no advertising, and no analytics. Almost everything it stores stays on your device. This policy explains the few cases where anything leaves it, and exactly what those contain.
What the app stores on your device
Everything you enter is kept locally, on your device, using Apple’s on-device storage:
- Players you add: the name you typed, and whether they’re still active.
- Games: the date, who played, each round’s cards, bids and tricks, and the resulting scores.
- Your settings: text size, high contrast, keep screen on, haptics, and whether spectator broadcasting is on.
None of this is sent anywhere. There is no server holding your games, no sign-in, and nothing that follows you between devices. Deleting the app deletes all of it. You can also erase it yourself at any time from Settings → Danger Zone.
Spectator Mode
Spectator Mode shows a game in progress on other devices nearby. When you turn it on, the app broadcasts over your local network and directly between devices, using Apple’s peer-to-peer networking. What’s broadcast is the live game: player names, the round, bids, tricks and scores, and, when a spectator opens the history, your saved games and player list.
This traffic goes directly between devices on the same network. It does not pass through us, and it is not stored anywhere off your device. Anyone running the app on that network can join as a spectator while you’re broadcasting, so treat it the way you’d treat holding the scorecard up for the room. Turn broadcasting off and it stops.
Saving score cards to Photos
If you save a game’s stat card as an image, the app asks permission and writes it to your photo library. It only ever adds; it never reads your photos.
Exporting and importing
Export All Data writes your players and games to a JSON file and hands it to the iOS share sheet. Where that file goes (Files, Mail, another app) is your choice, and outside our control. Import reads a file you pick. Neither one sends anything to us.
Getting help
Settings → Help → Get Help / Send Feedback is the only feature in the app that sends anything to us, and it only does so when you tap Send.
The support form on this website does the same thing, minus the debug info: it sends your message, and your email address only if you choose to enter one. It sets no cookies.
It sends:
- Your message: whatever you typed.
- Your email address, only if you choose to enter it. It’s optional, the field is clearly marked, and leaving it blank sends the message anonymously. It’s used solely to reply to you.
- Debug info, if the switch is left on. You can turn it off, and you can see the exact contents before sending by tapping “See exactly what’s included”.
The debug info contains no names, no scores, and nothing that identifies you or follows you between installs. In full, it is:
| Group | Contents |
|---|---|
| App | App name, version and build number |
| Device | iOS version, device model (e.g. iPhone17,1), iPhone or iPad, language, system text size, whether Low Power Mode is on, free storage |
| Settings | Your text size, high contrast, keep screen on and haptics settings |
| Library | How many games are complete or in progress, and how many players are active or removed. Counts only |
| Game in progress | Number of players, which round, what the game is waiting for, how long ago it started. Never names or scores |
| Spectator | Whether broadcasting is on |
How it reaches us. The message goes to a small relay service we run on Cloudflare, which forwards it by email through Emailit, our email provider, to our support inbox. Cloudflare necessarily sees the network request, including your IP address, in order to serve it. We do not store your IP address and it is not included in the email; it is used only, in hashed form, to rate-limit abuse. The email we receive notes the broad region and country the request came from (for example “Ohio, United States”), never a precise location.
How long we keep it. Support messages stay in our email inbox until we delete them. If you’d like a message and any address you gave us removed, write to privacy@upanddowntheriver.app and we’ll delete it.
This website
Everything above is about the app. This website is a separate thing, and it does one thing the app does not: it counts visits.
We use Umami for that, running on a server we rent rather than a third-party analytics service, so the figures aren’t shared with an advertising network or anyone else. It records the page you looked at, the site you arrived from, and your browser, operating system, device type and country. It sets no cookies, does not store your IP address, and creates no identifier that follows you between visits or between sites. What comes out of it is a count of page views, not a profile of you.
Nothing about this touches the app. The app itself contains no analytics of any kind, and using it sends nothing to this website.
The support form is described under Getting help above. Apart from that form and these visit counts, this site collects nothing.
What we don’t do
- No advertising, and no advertising identifiers, anywhere.
- No analytics, telemetry, crash reporting or usage tracking of any kind in the app. The website’s visit counting is described above, and stops at the website.
- No accounts, no sign-in, no profiles.
- We do not sell, rent or share your information with anyone. The only outside services involved at all are Cloudflare and Emailit, purely to deliver a support message you chose to send, and the company that hosts the server our analytics runs on.
- No tracking across apps or websites, as Apple defines it.
Children
The app is not directed at children, and it collects nothing from anyone, including children, beyond what’s described above.
Your choices, in one place
- Don’t want the debug info sent? Turn the switch off before sending.
- Don’t want to be reachable? Leave the email field blank.
- Don’t want to broadcast? Leave Spectator Mode off.
- Want your data gone? Settings → Danger Zone → Reset Everything, or delete the app.
Changes
If the app starts doing something this policy doesn’t cover, this page changes before that version ships, and the date at the top changes with it.
